The Newsroom

Sometimes there are shining moments in this programme when I watch and think YES. YES this is what I want. This is the caliber of writing I have come to expect and the sort of characters I want to see. I don’t see those moments that often but when I do, it’s so damn satisfying.

April 18th 1930: Nothing happened

On this day in 1930 BBC Radio announced in a 6.30pm news bulletin that there was no news for that day and instead played piano music for the duration of the programme.

“Good evening. Today is Good Friday. There is no news.”
- BBC presenter

And 41 years later David Tennant was born, stealing the day for his own forevermore.
