Imagine if new france still existed, not as a colony but like as a country that eventually developed it’s own economy and identity and then declared independence.
And then there’d be this big indigenous country in the middle, and then a little american country, then probably a spanish-influenced country in the west.
It’s weird when you remember that the political boundaries of countries are really just imaginary, and there’s nothing definitive about how these physical shapes were divided up.
history and cartography are both a lot more interesting than people think.
